Aquaplate Water Tank

Aquaplate water tanks are the modern equiavalent of the old steel water tanks can be made to just about any size or shape.

Aquaplate water tanks are strong, lightweight, corrosion-resistant and durable across a range of environments. Aquaplate water tanks won’t crack as a result of aging or sun exposure, and it’s the ideal choice for bushfire-prone locations.

A water tank made from Aquaplate steel is the only steel water tank to comply with the tough Australian Standard on the use of plastic materials for food contact use.

In effect, it means Aquaplate steel is deemed completely safe for the storage of drinking water for human consumption and thus an aquaplate water tank is perfect for rainwater storage.

Aquaplate steel has a food-grade polymer skin complying with the requirements of Australian Standard, AS 2070, bonded to a corrosion resistant galvanised steel base.

Aquaplate Water Tank Precautions

A number of precautions need to be taken with Aquaplate steel water tanks:

  • the polymer coating is not resistant to prolonged exposure to sunlight and Aquaplate steel water tanks must have a top cover in place at all times;
  • kerosene or similar chemicals used as mosquito larvicides can lead to the degeneration of the polymer coating and should not be used in these tanks;
  • the polymer coat of an Aquaplate water tanks should not be damaged when cleaning or installing the tank. If the coating is damaged, it should be repaired immediately using an appropriate sealant to prevent corrosion of the metal portions of the tank.
  • Copper or copper alloy fittings (brass and bronze) should not be connected directly to steel tanks as this causes corrosion. A minimum of two metres of plastic pipe suitable for potable water should be used between the tank and copper fittings.

Bluescope Steel manufacturers Aquaplate steel that many manufacturers use to construct Aquaplate Steel Water Tanks however Bluescope is also manufacturer of a range of Aquaplate water tanks.
