Our roofs are used to collect rain water which is then collected in our water tanks but our roofs are not totally clean. Dust, dirt, pollens and bird droppings build up over time and the next time it rains this debris is flushed into our water tanks.
The first line of defence against against these contaminants getting into your water tank is a First Flush Diverter.
The diverter takes the first 20 or so litres of water coming from the roof, and directs it away, so that the ‘first-flush’ of water carrying dirt, pollens, bird droppings etc. doesn’t reach your tank. Fitting a First Flush Diverter prevents the majority of the smaller particles from reaching your tank.
First flush diverters are important to tank water quality but should always be used in combination with rain head so they will not fill with leaves and debris which will stop the first flush diverters from working.
